Four ways to stick to your New Year’s Resolutions

January is the mother of all months for big changes and trialling a healthier lifestyle. When February arises, motivation can often diminish – so we need to take action to keep working towards your resolutions/goals. This is how it can be done…

Use a habit tracker

Using a habit tracker helps you to stay accountable, remind yourself of your goals, and monitor your progress.

Note down all the habits you want to adopt below each day of the week, at the end of the day tick it off if you’ve been successful. For instance, this could be drinking 8 glasses of water per day, completing 10 thousand steps – or whatever your goal/New Year’s resolution may be.

Reflect

We can often forget to appreciate how far we’ve come if we don’t take the time to reflect. Remember where you were at the start of your journey and compare it to now. This sense of pride will inspire you to continue and help to maintain or create a positive mindset.

Reduce the pressure

Creating new habits and a healthier lifestyle is a journey. Some days will be more successful than others.

But it’s important not to let your days off-track to determine the rest of your journey. If you forgot to brush your teeth for one evening, you wouldn’t stop brushing your teeth forever – and that’s how you have to approach all your goals!

Acknowledge that you’ve had a day ‘off’ and use it as fuel for a successful day.

Remind yourself why you’re doing it

Why did you set your goal in the first place? Was it for health? Happiness? To spend more time with loved ones? Whatever it may be, when temptation arises, remind yourself of why you started this journey in the first place.

We wish you the best of luck with your goals, and if you need a little more support, take the assessment below to see how we can help you.
