Digital Inclusion – what does it mean for you?

We know there are many barriers to accessing digital services and support but it’s not just about age and training. We know that digital inclusion is an enabler for how we live our lives today and ensuring health and wellbeing equality. In Essex there is a Digital Strategy spreadheaded by Essex County Council and here at the Essex Wellbeing Service we are able to support and signpost residents to make the most of what’s on offer.

The support and initiatives can provide access to connectivity and devices, access to affordable kit and internet connection and the adoption of digital skills and the motivation to use digital devices.

Barriers to being digitally included

Access

Being able to access good connectivity, whether that be mobile (4G / 5G) or fixed (FTTP) is key to getting online and becoming digitally enabled. Additionally, having access to online enabled devices ensures access.

If you’re struggling with getting access to devices and good connectivity, reach out to us today and we can put you in touch with the right organisations who can help with that.

Adoption of digital skills and motivation

While you may have access to a device and good connectivity, you may not have the digital skills to be able to complete tasks. From using social media through to online banking or using the NHS app we’re here to help. This is especially important as more and more services ‘go online’.

If you’d like to improve your or some you know’s digital skills again we have partners who can help you with that.

Affordability

While you may have access to good connectivity and devices, being able to afford them is another matter. The Council are working to promote affordable social tariffs, which are eligible for families on Universal Credit and other benefits.

What support can EWS offer?
